Aldhurst Farm Habitat Creation Scheme

We have already started work to create a new wildlife habitat in Leiston to help compensate for any future potential land-take from the Sizewell Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) should we receive permission to build Sizewell C.

The Aldhurst Farm Habitat Creation Scheme is a 67-hectare site being converted into a new wetland and heathland habitat that will benefit a variety of wildlife including water voles, otters, eels, amphibians, reptiles and birds, as well as rare plants.

The site extends from Abbey Road in Leiston to Lovers Lane, on the edge of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Sizewell Marches SSSI.

The Aldhurst Farm Habitat Creation Scheme gives us the opportunity to not only meet our compensation responsibility early, but to create habitat that could potentially extend the AONB all the way into Leiston, leaving a lasting legacy for residents and visitors along the Suffolk Coast.

The Aldhurst Farm Habitat Creation scheme makes up an important part of our overall landscape strategy for restoring the land around the proposed C station once operational. Our long-term proposals will come forward during further stages of consultation and we are committed to delivering a programme of restoration and enhancement.
